What is a Demand Response Event?

Cooling a home can use a lot of electricity. In fact, on extremely hot days, electricity demand can get so high that sometimes AES Indiana has to turn on more inefficient, expensive power sources to meet the need. Demand Response Events help us avoid turning to inefficient energy sources by working with your smart thermostat to shift some of your electricity use out of event hours, when most people use lots of it. 

Demand Response Events will be scheduled on extra-hot days, when electricity is in high demand (we will alert you by email when an event is scheduled). On event days, CoolCents will work with your thermostat, cooling your home before the event begins, then subtly adjusting your settings to help you use less electricity during the event hours. Any thermostat adjustments CoolCents makes are based on your temperature preferences, so we’ll keep you comfortable before, during, and after events.
