What is CoolCents®?

CoolCents is a program that works with your smart thermostat to help shift your cooling to hours when electricity costs less to produce — and we’ll reward you for taking part with a monthly bill credit!

Cooling a home can use a lot of electricity. In fact, on extremely hot days, electricity demand can get so high that sometimes AES indiana has to turn on more inefficient, expensive power sources to meet the need.

CoolCents helps us avoid this by working with your smart thermostat to shift some of your electricity use out of hours when most people use lots. How? On the occasional extra-hot day, we’ll schedule a Demand Response Event — a period of a few hours when we’ll work with your thermostat to help reduce your electricity use. We’ll cool your home before the event so your A/C can run a little less frequently during event hours, and we’ll always ensure your home stays within a few degrees of your usual settings so you stay cool and comfy.

By taking part in CoolCents, you help us keep electricity costs affordable and keep electricity sources cleaner, and you get rewarded for doing it. Receive a $50 Virtual Prepaid Mastercard when you sign up with an existing thermostat, or get $50 off the purchase of a new one, plus a $5 bill credit for each month you participate (from June through September).
